Chris Breedy began coaching age group swimming in 1982 and has since led programs at multiple high schools and aquatic clubs across the country. Over the course of her career, she has coached numerous high school state champions, All-Americans, and athletes who have competed at junior national and senior national championships. Among her most notable athletes is Chris Guiliano, who represented Team USA at the 2023 and 2025 World Championships and at the Paris Olympic Games, earning a gold medal and setting a world record as part of the men’s 400-meter freestyle relay.

As an athlete, Breedy was a multiple-time Pennsylvania state high school champion and a national high school record holder in the 100 backstroke. She was a member of the U.S. National Team from 1975–1979, representing the United States in international competitions in Russia, East Germany, France, Canada, and at the World University Games in Mexico, where she won one gold and two bronze medals. During her career, she set both American and U.S. Open records in the 100 backstroke and competed in three U.S. Olympic Trials.

Breedy began her collegiate swimming career at the University of Florida, where the Gators won a national championship in her freshman year. She later transferred to California State University, Northridge, where she became a triple national champion and national record holder in the 100 and 200 backstroke as well as the medley relay.
