Jeff Shirk serves as the Athletic Director at The Pine School, bringing over two decades of leadership experience in education-based athletics. Known for his energy, integrity, and commitment to student development, Jeff leads The Pine School’s athletic program with a clear focus on fostering growth, sportsmanship, and community pride.
Before joining The Pine School in July of 2021, Jeff spent 21 years as a collegiate lacrosse coach, including 12 seasons as the head coach at Washington College, where he revitalized a nationally recognized program and led the team to multiple NCAA Tournament appearances and Centennial Conference championships. He also served as Assistant Athletic Director at Washington College, contributing to strategic planning and departmental development. Jeff’s previous coaching stops include the University of Maryland, Brown University, VMI, and the Naval Academy Preparatory School, where he began his coaching career and first stepped into athletic administration.
A native of New Jersey and proud graduate of Mountain Lakes High School, Jeff was inducted into the New Jersey Chapter of the U.S. Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2021. He played collegiately at the University of Maryland, where he was named team captain as a senior and recognized as one of the top defensive midfielders in the country. During his career at Maryland, he earned numerous team accolades, including Freshman of the Year and Midfielder of the Year honors. Following his collegiate career, Jeff went on to play professionally in the National Lacrosse League for the Philadelphia Wings, Washington Power, and New York Saints.
At The Pine School, Jeff is focused on providing exceptional opportunities for student-athletes across all levels, while reinforcing the values of leadership, accountability, and character. In addition to overseeing all aspects of Pine’s athletic programs, Jeff also leads several key initiatives that support student-athlete development beyond competition. He directs the Strength & Conditioning Program, provides guidance and structure for the Athletic Intern Program, and facilitates the Captain’s Leadership Course, a 10-session series designed to cultivate leadership skills in student-athletes using the Team Captain’s Leadership Manual by Jeff Janssen. Jeff also plays an active role in advising students and families through the college athletic recruiting process, offering insight drawn from over two decades of collegiate coaching and recruiting experience.
Jeff lives in Martin County with his wife and three children, all of whom are proud members of the Pine School community.
